Re: Powercruise Taupo 2010
Will be awesome,I'll be there for sure,
Gotta get a bigger oil cooler just for this event...Skids yeeha!
just gotta work out how many tyres and litres of avgas to bring,im thinking as much as will fit in my trailer
Wonder if the airstrip next door has a shell avgas pump, better look in to it.
Can't wait!

Why not use BP instead?
They just leave it floating around the place and they'll even pay you to take it away.

The BP station just around the corner from the track used to sell AVgas at the pump. Not sure if they still do or not, but may save an awful lot of hassle Jase.

Re: Powercruise Taupo 2010
Good idea Revva but I think I need something a little more "refined" for my engine....
Thanks Todd,I'll double check with my avgas supplier,
its good to have a avgas card, just needs to be a shell pump.
On the fuel subject I read an artical which said the "MON" rating of pump gas was between 85-87 octane while avgas was 100 lean/130 rich octane rating making it awesome for supercharged and turbo cars.
The pump gas is rated using the "RON" to give the higher 91 and 95 octane which isn't the rating us petrolheads want.
Avgas still contains lead which is a great help to stop detonation, just don't tell the "greenies"
Someone said it was unleaded but thats not the case,Shell have details off there website if you want know more.
Cheers.

Re: Powercruise Taupo 2010
In the states, the pump gas is generally rated using the 'R+M/2' method.
That translates to being the AVERAGE of the MON (Motor Octane Number) and RON (Research Octane Number)...
I'm not 100% certain that it's actually the LEAD that stops the detonation, but rather the MON.
However, when lead is added to an otherwise 'inferior' fuel, it has the positive side effect of increasing the MON (and NZ was one of the LAST 'quasi-developed' countries in the world to go 'lead-free' because we used such CRAPPY fuel as the base!)
In other words, a leaded fuel with a MON of X would be more likely to detonate than an unleaded fuel that possessed a larger MON. I believe the lead is more pertinent for those older engines that don't have suitably hardened valve seats and, since such vehicles would not have O2 sensors or catalytic exhausts, the leaded fuel would not 'contaminate' such devices.

Re: Powercruise Taupo 2010
How are ya AFC?
Now why would I run pump gas when I ve got av to run on?
I can run that s$#t if I get cought short seeing I run a boost timing master from MSD but Im going to powercruise to have fun and not just cruise couse thats what the streets for....smoking tyres, sorry I mean cruising.
So you still going to race in the series this coming season?
I know I need to give it a go and try to get that #1 off your car but well see, gotta run consistant before i'll bother, guess thats why you race a light car with meth...so dam consistant.
one day I'll stop trying to run pbs and focus on WINNING!
you leasing your car out or going to sell it??!,aren't you sick of dragracing like you said
Reckon you need to get hard and put a blower on your car instead of "playing around"!
We'll come to stay at your place for powercruise then.

Re: Powercruise Taupo 2010
jason
if you do some digging you can actually get low lead avgas, there is such a thing. Ive always just run the normal leaded avgas and never worried about it or the greenies for that matter, ute, bucket, jetski and lawnmower and motorbike all ran on the satuff most of the time. and if you get the same price as I do with that shell card, its about the same price as 98 at the pump anyway so a no brainer really. Hell sometimes its cheaper than 98
now that Ive moved the ute and the bucket I dont need to have hundreds of litres of it laying around in the garden shed
